Lyonix and TOP-IX have connected their NAP in order to enable the exchange of internet traffic between their members. Using the connection between the two NAP, members of each NAP will be able to set up "peering" with the members of the other, so that traffic between them (and not towards other destinations) can follow the privileged route
made available by Lyonix and TOP-IX.
Therefore the exchange capacity of the two NAP goes beyond the regional boundaries. In addition to the economic advantage, ISP's and other members of the two IX will benefit of a much higher performance.
Set up
1. New mailing list (to Lyonix and TOP-IX NOCs) to be contacted in case membes want to have International peering. It could be fine having a new domain .eu as NOC@lyonix-topix.eu or NOC@SouthEuropeIX.eu. - TOP-IX can create new domain
2. On each web sites to link the peering contact page of the other NAP, making clear that, before to request peering,
3. it’s necessary to send an email request to the International NOC
4. Lyonix assign a subset of its IP addresses to TOP-IX and viceversa (we’re thinking at 24 addresses to begin – not a /24)
Procedure (how to)
When TOP-IX member request International peering:
If peer isn’t still on TOP-IX estended VLAN, a new french IP address is assigned to TOP-IX member and therefore it can contact the french peering contact
If peer is already on TOP-IX estende VLAN, after NOC check it can contact directly the french peering contact
When Lyonix member request International peering:
If peer isn’t still on Lyonix estended VLAN, a new italian IP address is assigned to Lyonix member and therefore it can contact the italian peering contact
If peer is already on Lyonix estended VLAN, after NOC check it can contact directly the italian peering contact
Management
